“I have learned about
a plan led by Álvaro Uribe Vélez, with the participation of the United States ambassador
in Colombia, Francisco Santos, who have been discussing with Lester Toledo, a
fugitive of Venezuelan justice, to get into Venezuela 32 mercenaries to
assassinate me,” said Nicolás
Maduro yesterday. The three plotters, he added, “have discussed [the plan]
in a bunker in Álvaro Uribe Vélez’ home.”
Lester Toledo is a
leader of the opposition party Voluntad Popular who fled to exile in 2016
accused of “acts of terrorism.”
Maduro also said that
his assassination is being planned because his enemies “are terrified of the Chavista
Bolivarian revolution.” This is also why, “from Colombia, violent acts are
being prepared.” Fortunately, according to Maduro, he is shielded “by God and
by the strength of the Venezuelan State, [who] will defeat all these violent
plans, all these mercenary plans.”
