Telesur, Chomsky and Coronavirus

Noam Chomsky declared in a recent interview that “there is no credibility in the claim that the virus (COVID-19) was intentionally spread.”

Venezuelan government news agency however has published this video section it claims is based on an “analysis” by Chomsky.

According to Telesur, Chomsky has argued that “The United States desperately needs to stop and delay the Chinese economy,” and in order to do this the “CIA, Bildeberg (Sic), Israel, and other world powers have agreed on starting a low intensity bacteriological warfare by spreading in Chinese territory a lab virus, the COVID-19.”

Telesur's source seems to be a note, original published in Spanish, falsely attributed to Chomsky. Web portals carrying the note claim it originally was published by the Spanish outlet El Insurgente.

El Insurgente has indeed published several articles making conspiracy claims very similar to those found in the “analysis” mentioned by Telesur ( see here, here, and here,) but nowhere does it seem to attribute those comments to Chomsky.

Update: Telesur has issued a new video rectifying its information. Telesur says that the article quoted in their previous video was not authored by Chomsky and was taken from El Insurgente. Telesur says it will no longer consider El Insurgente a reliable source.
