A good Reuters’
piece by Andrew Cawthrone and Girish Gupta, exposing the most extreme opposition
wing and their protest movement.
Most of the people interviewed
seem to be organized guarimberos and
followers of the radical retired Venezuelan General Angel Vivas.
The authors tell of an
increasingly organized, but still amateurish “resistance movement” –including “code
names,” disguises, and the use of foreign languages to avoid detection.-
Far from Maduro’s
narrative of a global “Madrid-Miami-Bogotá Axis” of conspiracy but still, as
the article points put, useful for the government’s portrayal of all opposition
leaders as coup mongers and plotters.
