Attorney General,
Luisa Ortega Díaz, has declared that the revelations
of a supposed plot to assassinate President Nicolás Maduro made on Wednesday
by the Political High Command of the Revolution, are “serious and the
investigation is being carried out according to the Constitution.”
“The public prosecutor’s
office has determined a series of situations that make us feel very secure
[about the investigation],” Ortega Díaz declared yesterday
in a televised interview.
The public Agencia Venezolana de Noticias (AVN) frames
its note on Ortega Díaz’s declaration with the following paragraph:
“Since the Bolivarian
Revolution achieved power, with the votes of the majority of the people,
Venezuela has faced a sedition plan that has very clear objectives: to
overthrow its elected and legitimate government. This plan has gone through
several phases, first against the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution Hugo
Chávez, with a 48 hour long coup d’état against him in April 2002, and then
with equal intensity, against the President of the Republic Nicolás Maduro,”
explains AVN.
Vice-President Jorge
Arreaza has also declared that the government has the “moral obligation to
denounce the coup plans against the State and the magnicidio plans against Nicolas Maduro, (…) because we need to
stop the ultra-right from re-imposing the bourgeois system [in Venezuela].”
The Agencia Venezolana de Noticias carries a
full
report on the conspiracy with the tittle “The old oligarchy is behind the magnicidio plan.” The last paragraph concludes:
“All those involved
[in the plot] have links to the United States and its government. They all have
interests in recovering the ancient [vetustos]
privileges of an economic and business caste. They all have a lot of money, but
not enough votes to be elected president, and [they all] lack respect for
democracy. They all have in common the use of violence as a tool to overthrow
the government of Nicolás Maduro, democratically elected by the majority of the
people.”
