Secessionist Plot

President Maduro announced yesterday that he had unveiled a plot to separate several States from the Republic. He did not reveal who is behind this latest conspiracy but assured that he will soon announce the identity of the main secession promoter and that he is an “oligarch” who belongs to a “neo-fascist group.”

Maduro read from a “public declaration” by one of the secessionist: “The only possible exit for states such as Táchira, Mérida, Carabobo, Lara, Nueva Esparta, and Zulia is secession. I doubt that the citizens of Táchira or Mérida will say today: It’s enough! We surrender and go back to living the way we used to live! Given the serious circumstances in states such as Táchira and Mérida, there can be no return to the initial situation.”

The President also compared the plan to what he claimed were similar situations in Yugoslavia, Libya, Ukraine, and Syria.
